Hurricane Relief Efforts
Helping Hands is a priesthood-directed Church program to provide community service and disaster relief to those in need.
“When we first showed up to this work order this gentleman was nice; but, when he found out we were
Mormon's ... he kept a far distance. In fact, I hardly saw him.
Finally, after a few hours he came up to me with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and a thick southern
Cajun accent said “naw Ive heard a lot about you Mormons, and they aint anything like dis!””
“Wayne had called the hotline needing help with 2 trees. They weren't more more than 18'
in diameter so I thought my crew could quickly do this job, eat lunch, then join our other ward crew for the
last 3 work orders.
When I pulled into the property I saw what was really needed I asked [the other work crew] if
they could join us as soon as they can. There [were] at least 20 trees down that were as tall as multiple
story buildings.
I... found him on his tractor with tears when our second crew showed up to help.
[By the way] at one point we had 5 crews at his house.”
